How to Transfer Video from Camcorder to Computer

Today, technology made it possible for everyone to create, shoot, and record videos conveniently. With the right tools and devices, you can easily record almost every aspect of your daily life.

But, these devices, like the camcorder, would not only shoot and record motions. By now you know that it is possible to share these practically anytime, anywhere. The only question now is, how can you conveniently do it?

Obviously, the first step to storing and saving your videos to your personal files is transferring them to your computer. And once you learn to transfer video from camcorder to computer, you can already do whatever you want with it. Share it, edit it, or just save it for future viewing, it really depends.

Now, there are a lot of way to transfer video from camcorder to computer. But this post will only tackle the two easiest and most effective processes. The first one includes a USB cable or a Firewire cable, and the second requires card readers. Find out what type of camera you are using,

is it a Gorpro?

How to Transfer Video using USB or Firewire Cable

Normally, all camcorders would have a USB cable or a Firewire cable in their respective packages. So, whether you have an analog or a digital type of camcorder, using a USB cable or a Firewire cable will help you transfer your videos from the camcorder to your computer. This process is what I would highly recommend.

The first thing you need to do once you have gathered your camcorder and its accompanying cable is to connect the cable from your camcorder to your desktop computer.

Once the connection has been established, you will notice a prompt or a quick box on the screen of your computer. This means that your camcorder has connected successfully.

From there, open the folder file of your camcorder and browse through the files. Search for the videos that you want to transfer. Once the files are found, copy and paste them on the designated folder that you created in your computer. Make sure to rename the folder accordingly.

The time of transferring videos is dependent on the size of the file. If the files are small, it would only take a few minutes or seconds to finish. But if the files are too big, it may require several minutes up to hours.

Remember that this

copy and paste

process will not delete the video files on your camcorder. It will just copy them, as is. So, if you want to fully transfer your files and have your camcorder cleaned, then you may choose the

cut

instead of the

copy

function. However, some people will copy and paste the files first and will only delete the files from the camcorder if the videos are transferred successfully.

How to Transfer Video Using Card Readers

The second way, as mentioned, would involve card readers in the process.

Not all camcorders have SD cards or memory cards. The ones that have these are usually the digital types of camcorders.

So, if you are transferring your videos from a digital camcorder to a computer, you may utilize this step as long as you have an effective card reader with you.

It is important to remember that card readers are typically considered to be additional costs. And this is because it is very seldom that camcorder packages would have this as an inclusion. So just in case you want to push through with this process, you may need to purchase your own.

In addition, card readers have specific sizes. This is because there are already several types of SD cards or memory cards available. The major difference between each type is mainly dependent on the size. Hence, the best solution is to have a card reader that can access multiple sizes.

Since you have an idea about the complexities of this process, decide if you still want to choose this option and still learn to transfer video from camcorder to computer using card readers.

Now, the next thing that you need to do is to detach the SD card or memory card of your camcorder.

Once detached, insert the SD card inside the card reader. And when it is already in place, you may now insert the card reader into the USB port of your computer.

Consequently, your computer will try to read and install the hard drive of the card reader. And when successful, it will prompt a short message or note on your screen, stating that you may now access the files of the SD card.

Alternate Arrow Circle Right

Open the folder file of your SD card and browse through the video files. Select all the files that you want to transfer and right click on the highlighted files. From there, your screen will show a drop-down menu which would allow you to choose specific actions.

Like what I’ve mentioned above, you may choose the copy and paste process if you just want to have a backup copy of your files. But if you want to transfer these videos to your computer and delete them on your camcorder, you may instead choose the cut and paste option.
